Development of the classic GOLF
The Type 17 presented in 1974 marked VW's departure from the air-cooled rear engine of the Beetle. The concept of a compact car with modern front-wheel drive and water cooling, which was initially viewed with skepticism, soon became a bestseller.
Highlights of the model history are certainly the GTI presented in 1976, the Scirocco shaped by Giorgiaro in 1977 and also the convertible, teasingly called the "strawberry basket" because of its roll bar, which continued to be produced until 1993, i.e. long after the introduction of the Golf 2.
At the same time, with the Golf 1, Volkswagen introduced the platform strategy that helps us keep our classics alive today. Many parts of the TYPE 17, as far as the engine, drive and chassis are concerned, are compatible with all its relatives such as the Scirocco and Caddy and are still available from us in OEM quality. In addition, we are always striving to manufacture parts that are no longer available or to obtain them as NOS (New-Old Stock) from old stock.
If you cannot find the part you are looking for in the shop, please do not hesitate to contact us!
